Jocelyn Robert et Alexandre St-Onge présentent Oremus Versatile, un disque double de musique pour voix et piano Disklavier.

Le piano Disklavier est un instrument fascinant. C’est un piano de concert “normal” de Yamaha, auquel a été ajouté un système qui le transforme en piano mécanique, contrôlable par ordinateur. Le projet initial de Robert et St-Onge fut donc de créer une série de pièces où les deux artistes joueraient simultanément sur le même instrument, utilisant des logiciels qu’ils ont créés pour l’occasion. Évidemment, les choses ne se sont pas passées exactement comme prévu et une série de textes furent aussi générés pendant le processus, textes qu’Alexandre St-Onge a aussitôt mis en voix. Après trois séances de jeu et une série d’étapes de montage, le résultat est Oremus Versatile, cd double publié avec les superbes images de Marie-Andrée Ouimet.

The Disklavier piano is a fascinating instrument. It is a “normal” concert piano from Yamaha, on which an electronic system has been added, transforming it into a mechanical piano that can be played by computer. The initial project on which Robert and St-Onge began working was to create a series of works where both artists would play simultaneously on the same instrument, using software they wrote for the project. But of course things didn’t go exactly as planned and some texts were also generated during the process, texts that St-Onge read/sang on some pieces. After three improvisation sessions and a series of editing steps, the result is Oremus Versatile, a double cd presented with wonderful images from artist Marie-Andrée Ouimet..
